Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich and his secretary Nikolai Nikolayevich Zhonson, according to one version, were shot in 1918 somewhere on a mountainside near the Yazovaya River (a hill on the border of Ordzhonikidzevsky and Motovilikhinsky administrative districts), near the Kamsky village (now the Chapaevsky neighbourhood). In 1996, a cross was erected at the alleged site of the murder, and on June 13, 1998, on top of the mountain there was laid the foundation of a chapel in honour of the Holy Right-Believing Prince Mikhail of Tver, the heavenly patron of Mikhail Alexandrovich. The first memorial service was held in the chapel on June 12, 2006.

On June 12, 2007, a religious procession dedicated to the memory of the Grand Duke took place in Perm for the first time. Pilgrims walked for 6 kilometers from the Perm Holy Trinity Monastery of St. Stephen to the Chapel of Mikhail of Tver.

Now official events dedicated to the memory of Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich are held annually in Perm on June 12 with the blessing of Metropolitan Methodius of Perm and of Kungur and are supported by Perm Regional Authorities.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, together with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Elisabeth- Sergius Educational Society, the Imperial Route, a project on historical and cultural tourism, is under way; it connects the places of stay of representatives of the Romanov Dynasty in different regions of Russia and abroad. The project is aimed at revival of historical, cultural and spiritual traditions in Russia and Russia’s achievements during the reign of the Romanovs. The route, one point of which is the Chapel of Mikhail of Tver, focuses on how the family of Emperor Nicholas II lived and kept up traditions of piety, and on other members of the Imperial Family – generous patrons and tireless benefactors.
